Not a box

I mentioned we had dinner with our friends Saturday. I have to mention it again, the food and company were really good. And they had just bought some furniture. Which everyone knows comes with a toy for the kids. This is their new clubhouse/boat....whatever, but it is not a box. My friend even had a book titled Not a Box. My boys love *not* boxes. We currently have "trains" in each of their rooms - housing all the baby dolls that are going on a ride and a "house" in Nathans room with doors and windows. I've even seen another friend build a three room, two story (really!) house with the reinforced stove/dishwasher/ boxes. The kids could sit in the top story. The not a box really is much more fun that the useless item that only does one thing that came in it. I however couldn't get the other kid in there. He was having too much fun launching the play lawn mower down the slide.

I love this funny picture, and it intrigues me as well. Nathan and Sam look more like siblings than Nathan and Andrew.

poor babies

If God really wants me to take care of his injured, sick, lost creatures, he really needs to give me a better skill set. I blogged about the little yellow bird a few months back that kept trying really hard to fly through our glass window. He only lasted two days. Well I didn't even get the story up about our last little visitor and the next one has already come and gone. The little one below my husband found last Saturday between our house and rv. He had an injured wing. We brought him in, made a 'home' for him. We had left over chicken coop wire from stringing up peas in the garden. My honey even made him a little perch. He loved it, he sat and chirped and chirped all night and morning. Then in the afternoon he started looking a little tired, I figured he was 'resting'. He'd been through a lot, he didn't make it much longer. We have a friend who worked at the near by aviary who said it was probably a bird attack and the bacteria takes over their little bodies quickly and they seem fine and make a turn for the worse. He made it about 24 hours total since we found him.

This afternoon our neighbors brought over a little fluff ball. They found him in their back yard and had cats and were worried and had no idea what to do with him. I put him in the box and called my friend who referred me onto another friend. Turns out it was a baby quail. She said if he's running around (he was) and chirping (he was), he was trying to call to his mom. We had him under our lamps we use to grow tomatoes until is stopped raining since it was a down pour and she said he'd get wet and cold. Once it stopped we set him outside in the box with the chicken wire on it so he wasn't in danger from cats, but could call to his mommy like she suggested and see if we could reunited them. He chirped and chirped. We went home and the neighbors were going to bring him back if the mom hadn't come back by dark to put him back under the lamp to stay warm. They went to check on him within the hour and he was laying under the towel and had passed away. We're guessing he got too cold. This one really breaks my heart. He was so tiny and I keep thinking I should have done something else. I hope he's happy where he is and there are no cats.

Sports and more Sports

We had friends that were able to get us tickets to the Bees game on Friday night. A group of twenty of us went, kids out numbered adults. I'm not fond of baseball. I figured the kids would have a blast and went to be with friends. My friend who got us the tickets isn't fond of it either. Which is ironic. I knew that because of this the game would go over. It had four extra innings. The Bees won. But, by that time I no longer cared, not that I did much to begin with. The fans that were with us no longer cared. There was at least a really cool firework show after which was the main reason for staying. We didn't end up getting home until midnight. Then Saturday my company held their summer party at Rio Tinto stadium and we watched a Real Salt Lake Soccer game. It didn't start until 8:00 - the kids bed time. I'm not that into soccer either. I couldn't tell you who won. For all you American Idol fans - David Archuleta sang the anthem and did a mini concert after. I've never watched American Idol. I'm sure it seems like such a waste for me to have gone to these events, but there is an up side to sports. Unlike movies, you can talk through them. I had a good time talking to friend and at the company party was able to talk to a coworker that I've worked with for a long time but never really gotten to know and always wanted to. The kids had fun at all the events and for as messed up as their schedules are, don't seem overly grouchy from sleep deprivation, at least not yet. We also managed to squeeze in a picnic and playing at the park, dinner with our friends (and they are awesome cooks) and a movie with popcorn at home this weekend.

Regatta races

Can you tell our little guy was excited! The Cub Scouts held Regatta rain gutter races last meeting. Nathan won for his age group and came in second place over all! And he's in the youngest age group. The other boy that won had a completely different boat design than all the other kids - which apparently works really well. Most of the the kids had issues with their boat tipping over. Nathan's daddy knew this would be a probably and kept testing different sail designs when assembling the boat. The other boy went with a catamaran type setup for the hull to deal with the sail issues. Nathan also rewarded with 5 new belt loops and two badge/patches. Most of which he earned during the Scout-o-Rama event. To top it off the Air Force was doing training exercises and flew over -RIGHT OVER us almost a dozen times. It was pretty cool.

Fingerprint Friday

I took this picture off the Pacific coast of Canada a few years ago. I love lighthouses, they serve such a simple purpose. To help protect and guide those that might be lost in a storm.

Love you!

My husband and I finished our Fireproofing class. We've really enjoyed it and the couples in our small group. Us along with five other couples (some from other groups) decided to re-new our wedding vows this past Saturday. We will be celebrating our ten year anniversary this coming August and were the couple married the least amount of years. It's nice to be in good company with other couples who support and care for each other. One of our pastors and his wife renewed their vows with us and are celebrating 25 years together. They flew off to Hawaii the next day. Something to look forward too.....
I owe a huge thanks to Marci.... there's a reason you get married before you have children.

100th post

I've been delaying posts recently because I was coming up on my hundredth post. Wow, it doesn't seem so long... I have a bunch of stuff recently newsworthy I've put off too and it's really getting to me. I had a plan for my hundredth post and the format wasn't working but I think I have it fixed enough to post it. A lot of people have a give away but that seems weird since I'm not tied to an Etsy site so I borrowed this idea from another blog I loosely follow. Here's a hundred things about me. Fifty things I love and fifty things I don't. The things I love was actually easier to come up with.
